Serverless Cron Job Manager with Failure Alerts for Indie SaaS Teams
Indie SaaS teams run cron jobs (email digests, report generation, data cleanup) on their servers but lack monitoring. When a cron fails at 3AM, nobody knows until a customer complains. Cronitor on IH built cron monitoring. The wedge is a fully managed serverless cron service: write the function, set the schedule, get failure alerts, retry logic, and execution logs without managing a server.
Problem Statement
An indie founder runs 8 cron jobs on a $5 DigitalOcean droplet: daily email digest, weekly report, hourly data sync, etc. The droplet runs out of memory at 2AM and the email digest job fails silently. Customers notice 6 hours later when they don't receive their morning digest. The founder SSH's into the server, restarts the process, and re-runs the failed job. This happens monthly. They consider AWS Lambda but the setup (IAM roles, CloudWatch, EventBridge) takes 2 hours per job. They want: paste a function, set '8:00 AM daily,' get an alert if it fails.
The Idea
A serverless cron job manager where indie SaaS teams write functions in a web editor, set schedules, and get automatic failure alerts with retry logic — no server management required.
Why Now
Serverless computing matured but AWS Lambda + EventBridge requires 15 minutes of infrastructure setup per cron job. Indie teams use /month VPS servers running crontab, which fails silently. Cronitor proved monitoring is worth paying for. Vercel and Netlify offer serverless functions but not scheduled execution with monitoring built in.

Coding agents now produce more PRs than human engineers on many teams, overwhelming reviewers with diffs they cannot read line-by-line. A triage system that evaluates PR risk based on code sensitivity, author verification steps, and agent conversation context lets reviewers focus on the PRs where human judgment changes outcomes. Haystack demonstrated this model, reaching strong HN traction.
